Shrews--kill them? how?

Darn, what we thought was a mouse, turns out to be a shrew. Won't go near the numerous traps set, keeps running around on kitchen counter top, even though I have poured pure vinegar on it, and removed everything on the top to a safe place. Please, no silly or humorous comments. This rascal is PEST # 1.
